2016 Floral Design Trend: "Lustre"

In case you missed our last blog, we're announcing the four Floral Design Trends for 2016 one by one. Here's the second trend courtesy of Jet Fresh Flower Distributors, who attended the SAF Annual Convention where the they were announced.

Lustre is an elegant and sophisticated decor style that incorporates neutral tones with luxurious finishes. What makes this design stand out from the popular white wedding flower trend of 2015, is the use of metallics and mixing metals to create cold bold arrangements with large or dynamic flowers. Sequins and glass are still around for 2016, but the rules have been bent as far as mixing elements go. Just like "sorbet", there is something for everyone in this design trend. So feel free to take ideas and and add some of your own.

 Galvanized Metal

Baby's Breath (Gypsophilia) has been quite a hit lately among rustic chic weddings, and it's not going anywhere for 2016. For the couple that's on a budget and looking for a whimsical, yet easy DIY solution, consider using galvanized metal buckets to hold your flowers. Larger size buckets are great for outdoor ceremonies as well as reception areas. For reception tables, consider using smaller buckets to hold your arrangements.

Tarnished Metal & Mirrors

Tarnished metals and mirrored vessels add lovely character to light, neutral flowers.

Gilded Gold

Expect to see a lot more gilded gold and gold spray painted details in flowers and greenery, as well as decor.

Rose Gold

Not only are we seeing a lot of silver and gold metallics, but rose gold has paved a way from fashion and design into wedding decor, and will be even more popular in 2016.

Rose Gold lustre can be both rustic as well as elegant. Choose your pieces to set the tone for your event.

Crystals & Sequins

For the couple seeking a glitzy event with bling, lustre is for you. Crystals, sequins and glitter get a green light for decor.

The flower choices for lustre include ones with bold shapes and lines. Long-stemmed flowers such as phalaenopsis orchids and calla lilies, or with round blooms like hydrangea and carnations, are also making a statement for 2016.
